Glasgow East Primary Schools Mini League's Go From Strength to Strength

Our latest league days for our Glasgow East Primary Schools Mini Basketball League took place last week with fast paced action across all groups.

Our Primary Schools Mini League started 4 years ago 2014/15. Since then they have grown from strength to strength, moving originally from 1 group of 4 schools and now up to 4 groups of 4 schools all playing basketball against their peers at other primary schools. Led and co-ordinated by Glasgow City this gives our Young Leaders, from our national league programmes, the perfect opportunity to develop their officiating skills as they take control of the games within the schools with many returning to their own primary schools to help the next generation of Glasgow City players take their first steps onto the club’s ladder. Recently we have seen the inclusion of the Junior NBA programme to our mini leagues with interested clubs receiving NBA kit with their “team name” and being included in the National Junior NBA game days. This has helped maintain and build upon the excitement that the mini basketball league has helped to build within our feeder schools. It’s fantastic to see that some primary schools feature in their ranks up to 7 Glasgow City players from the same school who have already moved onto compete for the club at both regional and national level with many more potential new players excited about possibly taking their first steps on their basketball journey. The buzz that our mini leagues have helped to create alongside the key partnerships we have built with Active Schools, Glasgow Life and the Junior NBA leave us with anticipation of a bright future for youth basketball in the East End of the City for years to come
