Club Champion Programme

Glasgow City Basketball Club Community Development Officer:

Toni Carvill

“This is a great opportunity to work with young children and bring them into our sport and especially to Glasgow City Basketball Club. We aim to inspire children to take up sport, basketball in particular and encourage them develop to the highest level they want to aim for regardless of ability.”

Glasgow City Basketball Community Officer operates through partnerships with our charity Shoot for Success, GlasgowLife Basketball Scotland and SportScotland

We deliver a programme in a number of local primary and Secondary schools aided by Sportscotland Active Schools co-ordinators, and will be delivered in a combination of after school clubs and core curricular physical activity.

At the core of our delivery are basic principles of equality of opportunity and access for all. Our partner schools believe that we aid the young people to become:

  • Confident Individuals
  • Successful learners
  • Responsible Citizens
  • Effective Contributors

These sessions are delivered on 6 week rolling programme with curriculium, lunch time and after school sessions and a short coaching programme. The young people are signposted to the Club Development sessions which take place in a variety of venues in the East End of Glasgow.

Our Community Officer also assists in the delivery of the Glasgow East Primary Basketball League which see's countless young people from the catchment area primary schools taking to the court in competitive games with their school peers in a number of league days, culminating in a finals day in conjunction with St Andrew's RC Secondary and the Glasgow School's Leagues.
